We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Material Engineer to manage and oversee all materials-related activities for construction and fit-out projects. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and approving construction materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards, coordinating with suppliers and project teams, and monitoring material usage on site. You will also be required to conduct material testing and inspections, maintain documentation and approvals, and support project execution to ensure timely delivery, cost efficiency, and adherence to safety and quality requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Material Management & Submittals
Prepare, review, and manage comprehensive material submittals in strict accordance with project specifications.
Ensure all proposed materials comply with approved drawings, design intent, and UAE authority standards.
Establish, track, and maintain meticulous material submittal logs (MSL) and approval records.
Liaise directly with consultants and design teams to expedite material approvals and resolve technical clarifications.
2. Procurement & RFQ Coordination
Prepare detailed Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages based on project material take-offs.
Source and engage with approved suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring timely submission of quotations.
Analyze vendor offers and prepare clear technical and commercial comparison statements for material selection.
3. Technical Coordination & Shop Drawings
Review shop drawings and technical details to ensure absolute alignment with site conditions and project requirements.
Coordinate closely with engineers, consultants, main contractors, and suppliers to identify and resolve discrepancies in drawings or specifications.
Support the project team in drafting and managing critical documentation, including RFIs (Request for Information), MIRs (Material Inspection Requests), WIRs (Work Inspection Requests), and Method Statements.
4. Site Support & Estimation Assistance
Conduct routine site visits to verify dimensions and conditions for accurate joinery fabrication and installation.
Provide technical support to factory production and site operations teams regarding material sourcing and handling.
Assist the estimation department with technical quantity take-offs, specifically focusing on joinery components like doors, wardrobes, ceilings, counters, and bespoke furniture.
Key Skills & Competencies
Material Expertise: In-depth, expert knowledge of interior fit-out materials, finishes, and high-end joinery manufacturing processes.
Technical Software: High proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit and 3D modeling software is a strong advantage.
Documentation Mastery: Exceptional understanding of shop drawings, structural joinery details, and construction documentation workflows.
Project Control: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage submittals for multiple fast-tracked projects simultaneously.
Communication: Excellent negotiation, coordination, and interpersonal skills to manage relationships with premium suppliers and demanding consultants.
Job requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 8–10+ years of proven track record as a Material Engineer or Technical Coordinator, specifically within interior fit-out and joinery projects.
Regional Knowledge: UAE project experience is highly preferred, including a solid understanding of local market suppliers, lead times, and local authority regulations.
